Our Covenant

Walk Together in Christian Love

We have entered into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.

Having been led by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, we have most solemnly and joyfully entered into covenant with one another as one body in Christ. We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love.

John 13 · 34–35

A new commandment — that we love one another, and so be known as His disciples.

Bear with one another in love, eager to keep the unity of the Spirit.

Our Covenant

Strive for the Advancement of the Church

We labor for this church in knowledge, holiness, and comfort.

We engage to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; and to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, the fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer.

Our Covenant

Watch Over One Another

We watch over one another in brotherly love.

We engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation.

Restore gently, and bear one another’s burdens.

Give Cheerfully & Regularly

We support the ministry, the church, the poor, and the gospel.

We engage to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

God loves a cheerful giver, and is able to make all grace abound to you.

Only that we remember the poor — the very thing we were eager to do.

Our Covenant

Walk Circumspectly in the World

We seek lives that are devout, just, faithful, and exemplary.

We engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment.

Look carefully then how you walk, making the best use of the time.

Our Covenant

Seek the Salvation of Others

We seek the salvation of our kindred, neighbors, and the nations.

We engage to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances, and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior — carrying the gospel to Yoakum and to all nations.

Conversion

“Jesus changed me.”

Discipleship begins with a new heart. Conversion is the work of God that turns us from darkness to light and from death to life — the change Jesus makes in everyone who trusts Him.

Baptism

“Going public with the change.”

Baptism is the believer’s first public step of obedience — a picture of dying and rising with Christ, and a confession before the church and the world that we belong to Him.

Devotions

“Refocusing on Jesus.”

The Christian life is sustained by daily nearness to God. In Scripture and prayer we steadily refocus our hearts on Jesus, watching and giving thanks.

Evangelism

“Inviting others to Jesus.”

Having received good news, we share it. Evangelism is simply telling others about Jesus — His death and resurrection — and inviting them to follow Him, always ready to give a reason for our hope.

Membership

“Joining the others with Jesus.”

We were not made to follow Jesus alone. Membership is committing to a body of believers — one another’s in love, care, and accountability — as members of one another in Christ.

“Being accountable to Jesus.”

Everything we have is a trust from God. As good stewards we use our time, gifts, and resources faithfully — cheerful and accountable, longing to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Mortification

Christ gives His church leaders to equip and serve it. We recognize the biblical offices of elder and deacon — qualified, servant-hearted men appointed to shepherd and support the body.
