Question 1:  What is our only hope in life and death?  That we are not our own, but we belong, body and soul, both in life and death, to God and our Savior Jesus Christ.

Question 2:  What is God? He is Creator and Sustainer of everyone and everything.  He is eternal, infinite and unchangeable in power and perfection, goodness and glory, wisdom, justice and truth.  Nothing happens except through Him and by His will.

Question 3:  How many persons are there in God?  There are three persons in the one true and living God: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. They are the same in substance, equal in power and glory.

These are the first 3 questions of the New City Catechism. As many of you know, we are going through this catechism together as a church, learning one new question and answer every week.  This week we will be learning question 3.  So far I have found this project to be more personally edifying than expected.  I’m not learning anything new, but I am getting to know God more in the process.  Along with reading the Bible and memorizing the answers to these questions, I would highly recommend reading three books;  Knowing God by J. I. Packer, Desiring God by John Piper and Delighting in the Trinity by Michael Reeves.  I also would recommend that you download the free New City Catechism app to your cell phone from either from the App Store or Google Play.
